Thyme Cafe is a gem hidden behind the few large trees along King William Street just opposite Victoria Square. You might overlook it when you pass by but the smell of thyme should have been able to attract your sense of smell.

Adopted from the cafe's website, Thyme Cafe is operated by an award winning Chef Anelle Bosch. As the name implies, it circles around the theme of thyme, be it breakfast, lunch or even coffee. For just one year of operation, it manages to be a finalist in the Restaurant & Catering SA 2012 (Best New Venue). It shows that the potential for this cafe is expanding.

I got a $19 breakfast voucher for 2 people from Cudo one month ago. Being an one-year-old oldie in Adelaide, I decided to bring my newly found sis, Yori for an Australian-style brunch since she is new in Adelaide! And hereby, our food journey started.

We reached at around 1.30pm which was very late as the kitchen was preparing to be closed. Thank God the chef was kind enough to prepare a satisfying lunch for us. We started off with a glass of orange juice. You can opt for wine too.

We were only allowed to order our meals from the breakfast menu as stated on the voucher. Hence, I ordered an Eggs Royale and Yori ordered an Eggs Benny. The meal came pretty fast since there was not much customers in the cafe.

Eggs Royale which I had ordered was a poached free range eggs and smoked salmon on toasted vienna topped with hollandaise sauce, capers and red onion. The toasted vienna was crispy and yet not burnt. Together with the flowing yolk from the poached egg and smoked salmon, the vienna just tasted so good. In addition, the hollandaise sauce was mild and not too acidic. I was served with a small bar of butter to be spreaded on the toasted vienna. Thumbs up for this!

Eggs Royale
Yori's Eggs Benny was a poached free range eggs and smoky ham on toasted Vienna topped with Hollandaise sauce. It was pretty much the same as my Eggs Royale but the ham just made a difference. I think the emphasis should be put on poached eggs and its combination with other accompaniments. Thyme Cafe just succeeded in doing this. Oh! The cracked pepper was just another add point to the meal! Another thumbs up!

Eggs Benny
Orange juice
The cafe actually offers more than just thyme based meals. You can order non-thyme breakfast from a quite comprehensive menu, just like us! The environment of Thyme Cafe is really cozy with its painting by well known Adelaide artist. If you like one of these paintings, you can actually buy from the cafe itself. It also has an open air area outside the cafe if you prefer to have your breakfast outdoor.

And I got a new cafe to be added into my breakfast spot list! Check out my breakfast experience at Mart 130 and Loose Caboose Cafe here!

Mochaccino
With a cup of hot sweet mochaccino, we ended our lunch with a happy stomach, and my blog post too.

Thyme on Urbanspoon

Anyone having lactose intolerance or does not like milk? Well, the name of this dessert cafe will not reflect who you are. Being snugly situated at Norwood, Milkaholic is famous as a dessert cafe. I love the design of the cafe as it is a brick house which exudes peacefulness and elegance.

Judging from its name, you might have predicted that this cafe serves a lot of milk-based products. But, surprisingly, this is not the case. Apart from desserts, it does provide breakfast, brunch and dinner to its customers on weekends. Milkaholic does organise some themed events at some of the weeknights too.

The exterior - so homely
Southern styling BBQ night on Wed and Thurs
Moving from exterior to interior of the cafe, I found that this cafe is a good hang-out place, especially during summer as it provides an semi-open-air area for its customers. You can enjoy the dessert together with the pleasant breezy weather. Such a pleasure!

Semi-open-air area - the windows are opened for better circulation
Besides the semi-open-air area, you can choose to sit at the benches where lots of artsy pictures can be found hanging on the wall for adoration.

Nice ambience

Cute milking cow as logo, printed on the glass door
Each dining table has its own tea light holder and candle, which gives the diner a sense of romanntic feel.

The candle and menu
We ordered several items from the menu:

Mina colada: a smoothies made up of frozen bananas, mango nectar, coconut milk and ice cream.

Milkaholic was really generous with the amount of banana and mango, yielding this fantastic rich smoothie. Coconut milk was subtle in flavour and this made the highlight of the drink on mango and banana. Great beverage indeed!

Mina Colada
Chilli fries:
Nice accompaniment seasoned with chilli powder. Chips is just perfect at any time of the day. Anyone with me?

Chilli fries
The noshing plate: tasting platter of three desserts.

Blackberry lime cheesecake with gingersnap crumble, fresh blueberries and boysenberry ice cream (Boysenberry is a cross between European raspeberry, common blueberry and loganberry.):

I really love this dessert as the three components mixed together so well that you want more!

Triple chocolate tart with hazelnuts and toffee popcorn crunch, and sprinkled with a little sea salt:

The popcorn was crunchy and AMAZING! Triple chocolate tart was ordinary though.

Vanilla bean panna cotta with passionfruit compote (in the jar):

This dessert was out of my sweetness tolerance. It was too sweet!

Noshing plate
I only like the blueberry cheesecake out of all desserts. However, I shall not do Milkaholic any injustice based on the noshing plate itself. It is because I heard that its sticky date pudding is spectacular. I should go back soon as its menu has slight changes each week.

Hey guys! It's SNEAKY PICKLE time!

Adelaidean! Have you ever wondered who is the activation pilot of the mushrooming mobile food vendors around Adelaide for the past few months? Well! It's Splash Adelaide! It is an event which aims to bring Adelaide laneways and streets into life. Part of its painstaking effort is to encourage street food in the city, such as coffee carts, burger vans and gourmet cuisine. This has been endorsed by the Adelaide City Council in which the program will continue till end of April. I really like this idea as it brings life to Adelaide city, encourages food entrepreneurs to bring out the best of their food as well as satisfies OUR taste buds with different kinds of gourmet cuisine.

Sneaky Pickle was first launched in December 2012. Following the launch, there is an increasing popularity for its pickles as well as its burgers. Not to feel left out, I decided to try this last Tues at North Terrace. It was a rough start for Sneaky Pickle that day because the owner parked the truck at non-parking area as all the parking areas were full. As a result, he had to wait for half an hour to get a legit parking space after the car owner in front shifted his car. Life of mobile food vendors!

Sneaky Pickle food truck - sneaky indeed!
Sneaky Pickle serves New York style hamburger and pickles as its side. So, you must be thinking what is the difference between New York style burger and normal one? Oh well, I was wondering too! This can be traced back to the history of hamburger (seriously?). One of the early American hamburger originated from Hamburg, New York. It was a flattened meatball being sandwiched by two breads. So, there comes the term New York styled burger. Well, to me, it's just a burger, most important is its taste!

Menu of the day
There are only four options in which you can choose for your lunch, as shown on the board. I picked Texas pulled pork + Slaw bun with BBQ corn and pickles for mine.

Texas pulled pork + Slaw bun + BBQ corn + Pickles
The pulled pork which is made up of pork shoulder was well marinated and juicy!

Pulled pork
The pickles was amazing too! The sourness with a tinge of sweetness appetised me indeed.

Pickles
I loved the BBQ corn too! Although it was a little bit dry, but the grilled sensation just covered it all. However, the bun was too soaked up by the juice from pulled pork, making it to be soggy. On overall, it was satisfactory. I shall try fried pickles with mayo as well as Reuben burger soon!

On a side note, Fork on the Road is happening this Sun (17/3) at the Depot. It would be an aggregation of over 36 mobile food vendors! That will be a pleasant afternoon for food with great music! See you guys there!

Hello guys! Have you ever faced a situation where you can't finish the big pack of cereal? Or you are sick of eating it with milk EVERYDAY? Oh well, I have this problem! So this is my SOLUTION: Cereal Bar.
Cereal bar

Recipe:

Ingredients:
4 cups             Cereal (Weetbix, Coco Crunch, Corn Flakes)
1/2 cup           Honey (or less, depending on your preferred level of sweetness)
1/4 cup (50g)Butter/margarine
1/4 cup           Nutella or Peanut Butter (tailored according to your preference)

Procedures:
1) Melt the butter in a saucepan.
2) Put honey in a bowl and bring it for a water bath. (The optimal temperature to heat honey is around 35-40 degree Celcius.)
3) Remove the honey from heat and let it liquedify. (Change hot water if the honey is not flowy.) Add in butter and nutella.
4) Mix them together thoroughly.
5) Prepare cereal in a large bowl and pour the mixture over. Mix them and fix it in a container.
6) Press it down for a more compact texture. Put the tray inside the fridge for around one hour.

Putting inside the fridge
The cereal bar is ready to be eaten! Don't judge the 'bar' by its 'look'! It tastes heavenly and healthy! At least you won't feel SO bad when you want to snack.

Health benefits of honey:

1) A source of carbohydrate
2) Vitamins: B6, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, panthothenic acid
3) Minerals: calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc.
4) Antioxidants: Fat and cholesterol free
5) Calories: 64 cal/1tbsp
6) Metabolise undesirable cholesterol and fatty acid, preventing obesity
7) Healthy Glycemic Index - better digestion of sugar

Crunchy and chewy, that's the two words I can describe this awesome snack. Hope you guys enjoy it!

What happens when you are full? Yes! BURPSSSSSSS (oopsss!)
What are girls good at when they are gossiping? Yes! GIGGLESSSSSSS

Believe it or not, these two things are one of the most enjoyable things in life, especially in front of your close friends and family! Hmm, it sounds yucky (for burps) but who cares? You are built according to the image of God. Just be yourself! So, God burps and giggles? I would like to think so! *wink*

This is what happen when you burp and giggle at the same time: having a satisfying meal while catching up with fellow friends, chatting with all your heart out. Suiting the name of the cafe, Burps and Giggles in Ipoh has indeed lived up to expectation to give its customers a pleasant place to dine out and meet up.

Burps and Giggles is a heritage cafe which is run by the same group of people who founded Indulgence. It has a similar concept with China House in Penang. It was originally a tailor shop which was then renovated to a funky and artsy cafe. It can go unnoticeable if you pass by the main road as you will treat it as an another-old-building. Well it's not!

The inviting entrance

Before my Ipoh visit for Christmas with E, I googled up some cafe in Ipoh so that this visit will be more foodie. Then I managed to find this place! Being said that it is handled by Indulgence, my expectation towards their food quality has been elevated. After a long struggle on its food menu board (they don't have a table menu and they always change menu), we managed to order!

The passionfruit mango smoothie is just average. E requested to add water because this is too sour for him. (DUHHH!)  To me the taste is alright but I am quite disappointed that it does not turn out to be like smoothie (ice blended and with thick texture). Instead, it is more like passionfruit juice + mango juice + ice.

Passionfruit mango smoothie
Smoothie aside, it's time to try the GREEKO Burger! It is a lamb pattie burger with red peppers, onions, olives, cheese and mint yogurt. Goodness! Even the sight of it already keeps my salivary glands busy! The serrated knife comes with the burger to keep its content intact together. It is an absolute heaven, probably the best burger I have ever eaten after Burger Theory in Adelaide! The pattie is minced to bits and you can feel it melting in your mouth together with the cheese. I love the burger bread the most! It is crispy and grilled to perfection. Everything just mix together seamlessly!

GREEKO Burger
E ordered the JAMMY Burger. It contains Angus beef pattie, Jalapeno, tomato jam, cheese, tomato and onions. Similar to the Greeko Burger, the pattie is cooked and minced to the golden standard, not to say that the sauce tastes good too. Nevertheless, I love my Greeko Burger more!

JAMMY Burger
Drinks down, main meal down, it's dessert time! The banana crepe is normal as I am not a fan of crepe. Sprinkled with icing sugar, the crepe is sweet and kind of soft due to the water content of banana.

Banana crepe
Besides food, Burps and Giggles does provide its customers an art-appreciating environment.

Toilet
Alley behind the cafe
Bicycle-themed-attic area
Decoration on the wall

Overlapping chair design
Heritage-feel window
High table
Burps and Giggles is a place that you cannot miss if you ever visit Ipoh!

Oops!! Happy meal makes people fat :P
With Jamie at the rundown place behind the cafe - transformed into a library

Very nice painting - it would be nicer with E's smile!!
Hope you enjoy the post!
