Fork on The Road was back on 12 April after the Fringe event! If you missed the last Fork on The Road post, you can check it out here. This time off, Light Square was chosen as the place of aggregation. With the grassy seatings, it was feasible for the diners to laze around in the afternoon or evening, enjoying their meals.

With the ending of daylight saving this early April, the day ends earlier than usual, around 6pm. Hence, we set off for Fork on The Road dinner event around 5.30pm to enjoy a short period of day light before the dusk kicked in.

Being driven by the research I had done the night before the visit and my unwavering curiosity, I decided to try out Little Big Cheese Co. Unfortunately, the special of the day which was the pulled pork toasty with King Island Smoked Cheddar, had been sold out and I chose to have Classic instead. It was a toasted bread with smoked shoulder ham, Swiss Gruyere, seeded mustard and lashings of butter. A stick of gherkins came as an accompaniment to the toasty.

The ham was heavily smoked and hence the saltiness was very prominent. It was sourced from Marino's in the Central Market. As the curing and smoking process is labour intensive, Little Big Cheese Co has no time but to pass this important task to the Marino's. The cheese was seriously good too! However, do prepare a cup of water when you are having this toasty as you might need it to wash away the saltiness before taking another bite.

Do try out its pulled pork toasty as it is smoked by Little Big Cheese Co itself and that is the highlight of this South Australian, Italian family run business.

Little Big Cheese Co has been operating around Adelaide for the past 4 months in various events such as East End Wine Down, Adelaide Food and Wine Festival and Fork on The Road, not to mention some makeshift locations! Do like its facebook page to keep yourself updated on its trail.

Hereby I declare my favourite brownie stall is Four Seeds! There are a number of variety you can choose from, but the most famous ones are peanut butter and salted lime brownie. I tried its salted lime brownie and it was so amazing! The lime flavour was incorporated into the moist chewy texture of the brownie which was topped with sea salt flakes. The saltiness kicked in after the refreshing lime, making the brownie a special one!

The array of food offered
Parsnip sage and mascarpone arancini I ordered turns out to be a surprise as I never realise vegan food can be this special and delicious! Especially with the sour and sweet condiment, the fried rice ball fed my stomach really well.

Get forked up! And hopefully there will still be the next Fork on The Road event!

Love, Victoria

Voila! The first ever weekend Fork on the Road and Damn the Man Night Market has just ended last Sunday (March 17). I am pretty sure that almost all the Adelaideans were there to savour the vast variety of food from our fellow mobile food truck vendors. The Depot has been really fascinating in bringing these two events together in conjunction of the last day of the Fringe Event! How many of you have enjoyed the accompaniments of food and music? Sure you do!

Scratching your head to figure out who those places and terms are? Well, there is a little bit insights about them. The Fringe event is an annual open-access art festival which runs over 4 weeks in Adelaide during February and March. Its role is to support, encourage and facilitate registered artists, presenters and venues. In this way, artists and presenters can have the best possible experience, not to mention that audiences have the opportunity to be exposed by these amateur or professional artists. A great time to aggregate artists around South Australia as well as the globe.

The Depot was originally an old bus depot at Franklin Street. Under the initiative of Splash Adelaide which aims to create a vibrant city of Adelaide, it has been turned into the Fringe's newest hub and performance venue. It has been a hive of activity for the past one month with various entertainment and food events. The good news is that the Depot will continue bring liveness to the city despite the end of Fringe event! It has also been nominated for The City of Adelaide Prize at this year's Architecture Awards. Well done!

Being one of the biggest food event in Adelaide, Fork on The Road has done a great job in bringing Adelaide food trucks, bikes and vans together for a food feast. It has also been included in UK renowned newspaper, Guardian on its list of highlights of Adelaide.

I missed out on the previous Fork on The Road events so this time off, I will not let myself to miss it again! Hence, my Fork on The Road journey starts!

Alrights! Enough with the settings, we shall proceed to the FOOD now! 36 food truck vendors turned up that day with their tantalising display of food. See the whole range of list here. Do notice that their names are really unique.

Loca Pops

My friend had tried Sweet Potato and Chocolate Chilli ice blocks from Loca Pops. The Chocolate Chilli seemed to be a mismatch but the sweet potato one was nice despite that it tasted like yam.

Chimichurri Grill

Chimichurri Grill serves Argentinian food on food truck. I ordered Chimi Steak which is tender scotch fillet steak, provolone cheese, rocket, and its signature chimicurri sauce being served in ciabatta roll. I added on fries and dipping sauce because I was craving for it!

The Chimi steak was too dry and hence I put the dipping sauce to enhance the flavour. Other than that, the ciabatta roll was really soft and this has become my new obsession. The dipping sauce was homemade and it tasted really superb with the fries. Dipping sauce is a must if you go for Chimichurri Grill.

Burger Theory

Selling the best burger in the town. This burger is always on my number 1 burger list. However, my friend said this was a little bit salty.

Sneaky Pickles

The chilli fries was not spicy at all. It was spread by bolognese sauce instead. An unique combination! The tasting platter consisted of pastrami on rye, Texas pulled pork and fried pickle. It was petite and perfect for foodies who like to try different options. Still remember that I mentioned about trying fried pickle here? Well, I had finally tasted it! It was really unique and suited my taste buds, but not my friends'. Besides that, the pastrami on rye was pretty good too.

I tried churros from ChurrOZ and I can never forget the sensation! Eat this when it is piping hot and I can assure you that you want some more! This can be deemed the best churros in Adelaide.

Love, Victoria

Hey guys! It's SNEAKY PICKLE time!

Adelaidean! Have you ever wondered who is the activation pilot of the mushrooming mobile food vendors around Adelaide for the past few months? Well! It's Splash Adelaide! It is an event which aims to bring Adelaide laneways and streets into life. Part of its painstaking effort is to encourage street food in the city, such as coffee carts, burger vans and gourmet cuisine. This has been endorsed by the Adelaide City Council in which the program will continue till end of April. I really like this idea as it brings life to Adelaide city, encourages food entrepreneurs to bring out the best of their food as well as satisfies OUR taste buds with different kinds of gourmet cuisine.

Sneaky Pickle was first launched in December 2012. Following the launch, there is an increasing popularity for its pickles as well as its burgers. Not to feel left out, I decided to try this last Tues at North Terrace. It was a rough start for Sneaky Pickle that day because the owner parked the truck at non-parking area as all the parking areas were full. As a result, he had to wait for half an hour to get a legit parking space after the car owner in front shifted his car. Life of mobile food vendors!

Sneaky Pickle food truck - sneaky indeed!
Sneaky Pickle serves New York style hamburger and pickles as its side. So, you must be thinking what is the difference between New York style burger and normal one? Oh well, I was wondering too! This can be traced back to the history of hamburger (seriously?). One of the early American hamburger originated from Hamburg, New York. It was a flattened meatball being sandwiched by two breads. So, there comes the term New York styled burger. Well, to me, it's just a burger, most important is its taste!

Menu of the day
There are only four options in which you can choose for your lunch, as shown on the board. I picked Texas pulled pork + Slaw bun with BBQ corn and pickles for mine.

Texas pulled pork + Slaw bun + BBQ corn + Pickles
The pulled pork which is made up of pork shoulder was well marinated and juicy!

Pulled pork
The pickles was amazing too! The sourness with a tinge of sweetness appetised me indeed.

Pickles
I loved the BBQ corn too! Although it was a little bit dry, but the grilled sensation just covered it all. However, the bun was too soaked up by the juice from pulled pork, making it to be soggy. On overall, it was satisfactory. I shall try fried pickles with mayo as well as Reuben burger soon!

On a side note, Fork on the Road is happening this Sun (17/3) at the Depot. It would be an aggregation of over 36 mobile food vendors! That will be a pleasant afternoon for food with great music! See you guys there!
